Happy Friday! I hope you all had a magical Thanksgiving holiday. I'm skipping my weekly update this week to give you a little PVTG preview from the lookbook we shot a few weeks ago. I'll be sharing these little sneak peeks in the coming weeks leading up to my event on December 13th at The Paper + Craft Pantry.

Before I opened my shop I always wondered where vintage shops got all their product from. It's basically a mixture of vintage wholesalers, thrift stores and estate sales. I've also noticed that when people know you are in the vintage business they like to give you all their vintage stuff which I LOVE. I've gotten several pieces from friends and family. Their old forgotten pieces are now my vintage treasures I can add to my shop for you! Another thing to know about PVTG is that a large majority of the pieces are very unique because they are coming straight from Italy. The vest, jeans and boots in this photo are all vintage pieces I've received from over there. The top I thrifted in Nashville and the rings are handmade by my friend in Italy as well.

As I've mentioned before, I also carry jewelry from local Texas makers. This amazing bolo necklace is from Little Pieces of Hope which is another small business based out of Austin. Their jewelry is beautiful, well made and a bonus is that 15% of their proceeds go to charities in need. Hopefully one day I'll be able to do more, but for now while I get this business off the ground, it's nice to be able to contribute in some small way through supporting another local, small business in Austin.

More sneak peeks and tiny tidbits about PVTG coming next week! Enjoy your weekend!

Overall My Favorite Vintage Find

OverallDress_1 OverallDress_2 OverallDress_3 OverallDress_4 OverallDress_5 OverallDress_6 OverallDress_7 OverallDress_8 OverallDress_9 OverallDress_10 OverallDress_11
Vintage Overall Dress via Style Station (similar), Free People Top (old, similar), Urban Outfitters Bag (similar), Nine West Booties (old, similar), Storie in Italy Necklace, Piuma Meister Jewelry Earrings

This overall dress I bought in West, TX about a month ago... It's basically the best. When a vintage piece fits me this well I just can't help but get extremely excited. This little number is vintage Gap (from the 1970s). I actually picked it out with the intention of selling it in my shop but I accidentally decided to try it on. Needless to say, I won't be selling this beauty any time soon. And the tag is amazing (this is what it looks like). I don't know why Gap ever decided to change their tags to anything else. The more I go out thrifting for vintage the more of a vintage tag nerd I become. Vintage tags are so much more beautiful than modern day ones. I don't know what it is. In general, I find that the craftsmanship on vintage clothing is just so much more thoughtful. Sorry for sounding like a vintage snob... Let's move on, shall we?

Two other special things about this outfit are the jewelry pieces I got from some friends in Italy. The necklace has a vintage pendant and is handcrafted together by my friend Gina. I will have a few of these available at my pop-up next month in various different designs. The earrings are by a friend of a friend in Italy as well who also makes all her jewelry by hand. I will be selling a lot of Piuma's pieces at my event next month too. So, you should come if you're in Austin! Find out more info about when and where right here.

European Vacation 2015: The Trip of a Lifetime

Floating in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Santorini!

How was it? Was it everything you wanted it to be? What was your favorite place you visited? Are you sad to be back?

These are just a few of the questions I've received from friends in the last week since I've returned home from my European adventure... Now that I've been back for about a week and have had some time to process all that's happened I'm ready to talk about it here with you on this little blog of mine.

How was it? // Was it everything you wanted it to be?
What big questions, right?! They're difficult ones to answer because they kind of encompass the who scope of my trip. So, first, here is the short answer. It was amazing. I mean you read the title of this post. It was the trip of a lifetime. And yes, it was everything I thought it could be but also so much more than I could have ever imagined. I went to Europe just off some pretty intense and strange times here in Austin and it was just the refresher that I needed. And how lucky am I that I was able to hop over to Europe rather than do what people normally do and like, you know, just deal with my problems at home? I recognize this and I am extremely grateful.

So, here is the longer answer. I have to admit when I first started the trip I was super overwhelmed. I arrived in Florence and immediately felt very far away from home not just because I physically was but also because of how different it was. A completely different culture, different landscape, different language, different in almost every way. As you might know, I suffer with anxiety and I was definitely feeling it at first. Being in a place where you don't know how to get around and you really aren't able to communicate can make you feel extremely anxious and lonely. But, alas, I just needed to have some patience (which I'm not so good at having), because like with a lot of things, when you give it time it gets better and it did. I felt better and better, more and more comfortable. It took about two weeks to really feel settled in but once I did everything kind of fell into place. I felt this sense of calm and even euphoria. I was relaxed and I was, dare I say it, truly happy. All my jumbled thoughts I had before and during the beginning of my trip untangled and set themselves aside to allow me to really enjoy myself. Before the trip I remembered telling friends that I was hoping to find some sort of clarity while I was there but I wasn't sure if that was asking too much. I mean just because I was going out of the country didn't mean my life was just magically going to make sense, I understood that. But I can honestly say that I did find a lot of clarity while I was there. Sure, I'm still figuring things out, I always will be, but I feel that now my journey is a bit more focused and a bit more organized. What else could I have asked for?

What was your favorite place you visited?
Another very difficult question. Y'all, going to Europe isn't like traveling from Texas, to Tennessee, to New York, to California. I can easily rank each of those places from my favorite to least favorite. But, at least for me, I really loved each country I visited for completely different reasons. I honestly cannot pick a favorite. Italy was my spot. I was there for the longest time, I made a lot of new friends, I learned the city of Florence very well, the food was amazing, the wine was fantastic. It was my little home away from home. I left Florence feeling so whole and happy. I actually didn't want to leave. I felt like I had just begun to scratch the surface of my experience there. Greece was my vacation from my vacation. I left my computer at home and almost completely unplugged. My mom and I spent our days lounging on the beach, swimming on the beach and eating all the feta, tzatziki and olive oil we could stomach. That was definitely the most peaceful part of the trip. I left a little piece of my heart in Santorini. Then finally there was Madrid. Like I said, I almost didn't really want to leave Florence but the moment I arrived in Madrid I fell in love. Madrid reminded me a lot of home. The streets of my neighborhood, Malasana, were lined with coffee shops and little trendy cafes. There were artists, fashionistas and musicians running all around. I felt like I was in a little European version of Austin. It was really the perfect place to end my extraordinary adventure.

Are you sad to be back?
Of course I'm sad. I'm sad to be gone. The moment my flight left the ground in Madrid to take me home all the amazing memories I made started flashing through my mind and I started to cry. Really, I did. I'll miss walking along the streets of Italy. Running to the train station to go on new adventures. Lounging on the beach in Monterosso and Santorini. Sailing along the Aegean Sea. Zipping through the streets of Florence on the back of my friends scooter. Laying in the park then running for cover from the rain in Madrid. And so much more. Yes, of course I'm sad to be gone. But I'm not sad to be back. I love Austin and I missed home and my friends and my "real" life. And I'm super excited to take all of the things I learned on my trip and put them to use. Let's just say I had somewhat of an "aha" moment in the beautiful Cinque Terre region one lazy afternoon. There are some big things coming up for me and I am so excited to dive in and share this new chapter of my life with all of you. Stay tuned for some very big announcements in the next few months.

So there you have it. The trip of a lifetime. If you are interested in going back and reading about my journey from the beginning check out all my European vacation posts here.

And now, in true April fashion because I never stop, I'm off again to enjoy a creative girl's weekend in Marfa, Texas with some very inspiring ladies I'm lucky enough to call my friends. I am so excited about this trip. I love spending quality time with people who I respect so much for all the amazing things they are doing and who push me to be the best creative version of myself. Follow us on instagram with the hashtag #sisterhoodxmarfa and I'll be sure to tell you all about it once we are back next week.

A Red Door in Florence

United Colors of Benetton Tank (similar), Zara Skirt (similar), Reef Sandals, Thrifted Belt, Vintage Coach Backpack via Charm School Vintage, Ray-Ban Sunglasses

Hi there! Happy Tuesday! I hope your Labor Day weekend was a great one. Although Labor Day is not a holiday that is celebrated over here in Europe I still had the day off work, of course. You can see all my holiday weekend adventures here.

Anyway, before I get back to photos from Greece let's take it back to Florence and this fabulous red door for a minute. So cute, right? This was on one of my last days in Florence on the walk up to Piazzale Michelangelo which has one of the best views of the city. And man, I'm missing it so much right now. Today is my last day here in Europe and I'm having mixed emotions. Excited to get home to see all my friends and family and be back in Austin but also pinching myself that this amazing experience actually happened. It definitely felt like a dream, but I'm so happy it actually wasn't! It's real and it's been... amazing.

Of course I'll be doing some more recapping in the next few weeks. Talk soon!

The Crop Queen

Urban Outfitters Crop Top, H&M Skirt (old), Old Navy Clogs, Brixton Hat, Vintage Coach Backpack via Charm School Vintage, c/o Limbo Jewelry Necklace and Earrings

Hi friends! I'm going to keep this post short because I'm getting ready to head to Santorini, Greece with my mom so I don't have much time to write. I did want to mention that my dear friend and photographer Chelsea has dubbed me "the crop queen" and I love it. I'm all about a good crop top in the summer time. The temps here in Italy have been so high and with no A/C in a lot of places I'm constantly trying to stay as cool as I can and wearing a cute crop top definitely helps... at least a little bit.

I think I may take off from blogging a little bit next week as I'll be enjoying the rest of the time I have here with my mom. When she leaves to go back home I'll be on my way to Madrid, Spain for a couple weeks #cantstopwontstop! Enjoy your weekend!

Scenes from the Cinque Terre

Photos by me

I finally got around to editing some photos from my trip to the Cinque Terre! It is seriously one of the most beautiful and colorful places I've ever been. Sadly, I was only able to stay for a few days but here are some recommendations if you ever find yourself in this magical land... and I hope you do!

Watch the sunset on the beach in Riomaggiore.
Go for a hike.
Eat ALL the gelato.
Rent an umbrella and chairs on the beach in Monterosso.
Visit all five villages by train.
Bring your camera and explore all the little hidden streets.
Take the ferry from one village to another.
Have dinner at Nessun Dorma in Manarola for the most amazing view.

Ciao for now!

European Vacation 2015: Life Lately

all images from my instagram (@pieceology)

Hi there! Sorry for the big photo dump but I've taken so many photos here already and I wanted to share them with you. These are all images from my instagram which I update a lot more often than my blog so if you want to follow along in real time go follow me over there @pieceology.

Anyway, let's see... It's been a bit of a whirlwind and I haven't had much time to think or write so I'm not sure where to begin so I guess I'll just start from the beginning. When I first arrived in Florence from Austin I only had a couple days to spend here. I stayed with a friend and she took me around to see some of the major things such as the Duomo (pictured above) which is one of the most beautiful buildings I've ever seen. We biked around which was so fun for me. I'm definitely going to start biking when I get back to Austin. Then, shortly after my arrival I went off to the Cinque Terre to participate in a creative workshop hosted by the lovely Justina Blakeney. I have a ton of photos I took on my DSLR from Cinque Terre but I haven't had much time to edit them. Once I get a chance I will be posting those to the blog and chatting more about what I learned during the workshop, so stay tuned for that.

Ok, so what was next after Cinque?? Ah yes, I arrived back in Florence and I had to work straight away (my train got back at 11am and I had to work at 1pm!) so I wasn't able to do much exploring that day. I have to say, it's been challenging working here. I knew it would be but I wasn't sure really how I'd feel about it until I was here. My schedule is from 1-9:30pm so I am inside most of the day. I've been trying to wake up early to go see the sites but some night I accidentally (whoops) end up staying out late since nothing closes here until after 2am and you really don't realize what time it is! I did get to go to the leather market and buy a beautiful new purse that I'm sure I'll be featuring here on the blog in the near future. I also went to Mercato Centrale for lunch a few days ago which I can only best describe as a big Whole Foods but much more... European. So not too much sightseeing so far but I do have a lot of things planned for when my mom gets here this weekend before we head off to Greece. Oh, and did I mention I'm staying right by the Basilica di Santa Croce?? So I get to walk past that beautiful church pretty much everyday.

Other than exploring in Florence, we did go to the beach in Viareggio this past weekend which is about 1.5 hours way. It was kind of amazing. I've never been to a beach with mountains that you can ski on in the winter just right there in the background. Crazy. I've also ended up making friends with some Italians so I've been going out to the "local" bars and having dinners with them, just listening to them all speak in Italian not really knowing what they're saying but it's been pretty interesting trying to understand their language. They say that's the way you learn best, right?! All in all it's been an adjustment but I'm up for the challenge. And honestly, everyday just keeps getting better and better over here :)

That's all for now. Talk soon!
