November Fancy Tunes 2015

Nov_Fancy_Tunes

Happy Wednesday! I know it's a little over half way through the month but I still think it's worth sharing my playlist I've been listening to lately. Lots of new music out this month and I just wrapped up a weekend at Fun Fun Fun Fest where I discovered some great new to me music as well. Enjoy!

October Fancy Tunes 2015

WildChild_OctoberMusic

Well it sure has been awhile since I've done a music post! But this month I really wanted to share with you what I've been listening to lately because two of my favorite bands have come out with new music this month. Wild Child is a local Austin band and they just released their third album last week. I've listened to this record probably 10 times already. Kelsey and Alexander's voices will seriously make your heart melt. Then the band Givers, who I've been waiting for new music from for four years now (!!!), are finally coming out with a new album in November and have released a couple of singles this month. Check out the playlist for them and more. Happy Wednesday!

July Fancy Tunes 2015

one, two, three, four, five, six

Happy July! As usual, I've got a little playlist for you. I did really bad last month about discovering new music. I think Bonnaroo wore me out. So I took to my facebook (go give it a "like" if you haven't yet) for help and I got a few great suggestions from my cool musically versed friends. I was also pleasantly surprised that this playlist accidentally turned into almost full on girl power mode with the exception of a few. What can I say? Girls rule! Enjoy the tunes.

June Fancy Tunes: Bonnaroo Edition

Happy June! I've got a special playlist for you this month. All my favorite jams from artists performing at Bonnaroo this year. Yep, I'm going to Bonnaroo in a couple weeks and I'm so excited about it. The line up is AMAZING. I've never been to this festival and it will also be my first out of town festival I've ever been to. I was actually supposed to go to Bonnaroo back in 2007 but ended up not being able to after having already bought my ticket and everything so 8 years later and I'm ready to go and this time it's happening for real. Some notables I'm most pumped about (that I've never seen before) are Flume, Sbtrkt, My Morning Jacket, Temples, Caribou and of course Billy Joel... kind of epic. I did add a new Lord Huron song on this list even though they won't be at Bonnaroo, I just really love the song. Enjoy the music!

May Fancy Tunes 2015

I didn't explain last month when I did my April Fancy Tunes playlist why I call them "fancy." While you may think it's just because they are tunes and I find them fancy, the word "fancy" has a little bit more meaning to me than just something I like to say or use to describe things. It's actually my nickname. Fancy Pants, but Fancy for short. So, last year when I started creating monthly playlists on my Spotify account I decided to call them "Fancy Tunes." Much more fun than just calling them "April 2015" or "May Playlist 2015" right? So anyway, that's why they are fancy, because they are mine and I am Fancy. Feel free to call me that whenever you see me. I like it.

Now, on to the music. We've got lots of different genres here. I went to Levitation Fest, formerly Austin Psych Fest, this past weekend (where the photo above was taken // so much fun!!) so you'll get some psych rock, but I've also been on a bit of a rap kick lately, so you'll get some of that to, and then even a few pretty mellow tunes... among other things. Enjoy!

April Fancy Tunes 2015

Happy April! This is my favorite month for several reasons but mainly because well, it's my name and also it's my birthday month. So, to start off this glorious month I put together a little playlist with some of the artists I discovered/got to see during SXSW a couple weeks ago since I didn't feature the event on the blog because I am a terrible blogger. Sorry friends. But I do have to say I actually have a whole month of posts lined up. I've started a blog calendar and I'm going to try to stick to it! Also, I'll be working with a new friend on some outfit posts that I can't wait to share with you. Stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy the music.

SXSW 2014 Recap

Hi. Wellll, how time flies when you're have much too much fun, right?! There was Mardi Gras, then I got right back to Austin just in time for SXSW. And can I just say, O.M.G. I'm exhausted, but these past few weeks have been such a blast. South By this year exceeded my greatest expectations and I'm so happy about it. We discovered new music, enjoyed some old favorites, made new friends, played with animals, got our faces painted, drank a lot... of coffee, of course ;) and got little sleep. SO. Worth. IT.

Then there was my favorite day at The Beehive hosted by The Wild Honey Pie music blog. These humans are awesome. They put on a killer showcase with some badass decor (um, gold painted honey bear chandeliers anyone??!) and introduced me to so many great new bands. One being How Sad. They are so wonderful, y'all. Check them out. They were super nice and their new singer/tamborine cutie, Camellia and I were basically best friends by the end of the day. They made me wanna dance (check), become best friends with them (basically check), jump around (yeah, check), and learn the drums (well... I'll work on that one). Besides How Sad I discovered a lot of great new music throughout the week and I'm so thrilled about it. Check out the playlist I put together of some of my faves I saw during my 10(ish) day whirlwind at SXSW!

Music Monday- Night Beds

Hey hey, it's Monday. How was your weekend? I spent most of mine working and driving. I had a bridal shower in Houston Saturday so got a bit of a break to hang out with some friends I haven't seen in a while which was great. I'm ready to start this week though. I've got 3 concerts!! A little excessive, I know, but I just can't seem to stay away from the music. My wallet doesn't like it so much, but my wallet doesn't like a lot of the decisions I make... You can't please everyone, you know?

One of the bands I was supposed to be seeing this week is Night Beds. I'm kind of obsessing over them right now. Front man Winston Yellen and his band came out with their debut album, Country Sleep, last year and "Head For The Hills" is a new single they released in January. I'm going to see Lord Huron this week at Emo's and Night Beds was supposed to be the opener, but there was some conflict so they won't be touring with each other anymore. I'm a little bummed but hoping they'll pass through sometime soon. Such chill, feel good music. Listen to this song + the full Country Sleep album. Perfect Monday morning jams.

Music Edition: My Music Monday

Happy Monday! Sorry for the absence last week. I was the busiest I've ever been with work, like for real. It was kind of a nightmare and all a blur at this point. All I had time for was working (LOTS), sleeping when I could (not much), and eating (poorly due to stress)... So now that I've depressed you on a day that's already kinda crumby, let's pep it up, shall we?! Here are a few songs that have been on repeat for me lately. Give them a listen here. I promise they'll make your day even better than I hope it already is! Stay positive. It'll be Friday again before we know it :)

All of Us - Painted Palms
Ends Of The Earth - Lord Huron
Shadow People - Dr. Dog
Don't Tell Me - Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.
Byegone- Volcano Choir
I Could Go - Oberhofer
Man-Revolutionary! - Rogue Wave
Dominion - Delorean
Full Moon - Mansions On The Moon

It'll be my last festival of the year and what a way to to end the season! Here are a few of my favorite songs from some artists playing this weekend. Happy listening and Happy Hump Day :)

Music Edition: RIP Kidd Kraddick

Today's post is a very emotional one for me and is very different from my normal music edition posts. As I write this I have just finished listening to Kidd Kraddick in the Morning... for the first time without Kidd.

On Saturday, David "Kidd" Kraddick died in New Orleans at a charity golf event for his Kidd's Kidds foundation. I was at an engagement party celebrating when I heard the news. I was devastated. It's crazy how quickly we can go from one emotion to the another one so drastically different...

This morning Kellie, Big Al Mack, J-Si, Jenna, and Psycho Shannon all shared stories about Kidd and took a few calls from listeners who shared their stories as well. Now I'd like to share mine with you.

I moved to Dallas when I was in 2nd grade at the age of 7. From the start I listened to Kidd Kraddick in the Morning in the car with my mom on the way to school. Over the years I continued this traditional as we moved from city to city within the Dallas area. I even got to meet Kidd and Al once when I was around 10 years old. When I got my first car at 16 I continued to listened in on my own. Even when I went off to college in Baton Rouge, LA I was about to listen to the show because it is syndicated on one of the local stations there. I didn't listen as much during college since my commute was a little different. But, my last semester I had an internship and was so thrilled to be able to listen in again almost every morning. I would get so aggravated if I got in the car and there was one of those long commercial breaks and then a song that lasted my whole commute. I would get to work and turn it on at my desk computer for the live stream. In the past few years I hadn't been able to listen much at all, mainly because I don't have a commute anymore and don't wake up as early as the show is on. But, regardless am so honored to have been able to listen for as long as I have.

The show has been a part of my life for almost 20 years. That's a long time. My childhood was spent listening to Kidd, Kellie, and Big Al. I feel like I know them. They were a part of my family. A part of my upbringing. A huge part of my life.

Kidd was such a great man. He did so much for unknown artists and most importantly his Kidd's Kidd charity for terminally ill children. I remember crying in the car in the morning listening to the stories about these kids that he helped and cared so much for. He's with them now and that alone makes me smile.

I'll truly miss listening to him. It was always such a joy to hear his voice and made waking up so damn early a little bit more enjoyable for me. Dallas has lost a real hero.

Thank you for everything Kidd, you really are a true role model. My heart goes out to your family and friends and all the listeners who love you just like I do. And as you would say, I'll say it one last time, "Keep looking up, cuz that's where it all is."

If you didn't know anything about Kidd or just want to see him in his true element check out this hilarious bit he did on the show a couple years ago. One of my best friends, who I listened to the show a lot with growing up, posted it on Facebook earlier today. It's just one of many bits Kidd did that made me laugh until I cried...
